Based on the 1948 Powell and Pressburger film, which is in turn based on the tragic fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson, The Red Shoes is the story of a talented young dancer who finds herself torn between love and her career, with heartbreaking consequences.

As part of non-profit organisation Center Theatre Group (CTG), the Ahmanson shares the Music Center with three other major venues, but is especially famed for originating Tony Award-winning shows, as well as being the main venue for touring Broadway productions whilst in Los Angeles. Its first production was 1967's More Stately Mansions starring Ingrid Bergman, and today is the largest theatrical season-ticket subscription base on the West Coast of the United States, and is unique in that it's seating can be periodically reconfigured for different productions to create intimacy or large spaces when required.
