Why see Oklahoma!?
The first-ever narrative-driven Broadway musical hit
The musical that started the tradition of the Broadway show, Oklahoma! anchored what was to be a long-standing and successful partnership between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Presented by Southern Californian production company 3D Theatricals, this charming, sunshine-based family musical has a timeless appeal, and has given us such standards as Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'; People Will Say We're in Love, and the toe-tapping title song, Oklahoma! And launching the career of one cheerful Aussie bloke called Hugh Jackman!
The classic musical is the story of Laurey and the two rivals for her affections: Curly, a cowboy, and Jud, the hired farmhand. The play takes place in 1906 in an Indian territory of the American West during the time when Oklahoma was established as a state. Laurey is a headstrong farm girl who doesn't want to fall willingly into the arms of the handsome cowboy, Curly. In her attempts to avoid him, she ends up turning to the dark-hearted farm hand, Jud Fry, who wants to do more than take her to the dance.....
