Why see Los Angeles Opera: Norma?
An iconic role
Norma is the story of a high priestess whose people are threatened by the invasion of the Roman army. Torn between duty and desire, Norma falls in love with a soldier Pollione and bears his children. When Pollione's eye strays, Norma is stuck in a quagmire, should she reveal her betrayal to her people? War and the anger of the gods is invoked in this highly emotive drama that pits passionate love against the bitter-sweet taste of revenge.
In this Washington National Opera commissioned production, that includes one of the most demanding parts in the soprano repertoire, Angela Mede will take on the role of Norma, alongside Jamie Barton as Adalgisa. James Conlon directs.
