Los Angeles Opera: The Ghosts of Versailles at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion

Why see Los Angeles Opera: The Ghosts of Versailles?

Brand new production!

John Corigliano and William M Hoffman's Ghosts of Versailles revisits some of opera's most beloved characters, along with some infamous historical figures, topping off Beaumarchais' Figaro Trilogy in uproarious fashion! LA Opera presents this lavish brand new production of the 21st Century's most exuberant and well received Opera.

Set in the afterlife of the sumptuous palace of Versailles in the time of Louis XVI, the ghosts of the French Revolution, including Marie Antoinette, are listless and bored, in their gildedw purgatory. The playwright Beaumarchais tries to cheer her up and win her love by producing a play for her, summoning his greatest characters, Count Almaviva and Fiagro, who 20 years after the Marriage of Figaro, are still up to their old tricks.

A riotous tale of espionage and thievery follows, where characters try to escape the confines of the script and find a new life, whilst they attempt to change the course of history forever!
