Hailed as a modern day version of Dante's Inferno, The Untranslatable Secrets of Nikki Corona is the brand new world premiere work of Obie Award-winning Puerto Rican playwright Jose Rivera, kicking off the Geffen's groundbreaking, culturally diverse 2018/19 theatre season. Fusing the surreal nature of magical realism with the universal truths of love, the family bond and death, the supernatural drama explores romance in the afterlife.
The story follows Nikki, who is cast out to sea when her twin sister Abril commits suicide and she is unable to tell her one last thing. In an attempt to deliver the message, Nikki turns to an organization that arranges for dying people to carry messages from the living to the dead, although it is unclear if the message ever makes it across. Still Nikki persists and A Orpheus Better Orpheus Inc. pairs her with messenger terminal cancer patient Orlando, setting of an unconventional romance. Although he has no idea what awaits in he great beyond, Orlando promises to take Abril Nikki's message.
