Gladys Knight & Tower of Power at Hollywood Bowl

Why see Gladys Knight & Tower of Power?

Funk and Soul

Get ready for an extra soulful double bill as Gladys Knight and Tower of Power team up for a one-night-only performance. Each act has shaped the musical landscape of Soul and RnB in their own right; Knight has an astounding seven Grammys to her name, while funksters Tower of Power boasts a horn section to die for and the tightest rhythm sections known to man!

At 70 years old, Ms Knight can still clear the rafters with her vocal chops. Some things just get better with age, and the Empress of Soul is no exception. With her backing band The Pips she was one of the Motown label's brightest stars in the late sixties, recording, amongst others, the original version of I Heard it through the Grapevine.

Since then however she's dabbled in jazz, R'n'B and gospel, and secured her place in the annuals of movie history with the theme from 1989's Bond film License to Kill. Do not miss her live on this extra special evening.

Tower of Power began life in 1968 as The Motowns, a name wisely discarded in favour of a moniker that pretty neatly sums up the band's sound. The line-up may have changed drastically over the years, but Tower of Powers commitment to upbeat, tight funk and soul is unwavering. Among their best known tracks are What is Hip and So Very Hard to Go.
