Celebrating Mozart at the Bowl
An all-Mozart triple program awaits at the Hollywood Bowl this September, conducted by the skilful baton of Nicholas McGegan, one of the foremost baroque maestros of modernt times. Closing out the classical season at the Bowl, we celebrate Salzberg's most famous son. Starting proceedings with the 1781 Overture to Idomeneo, it is followed by Violin Concerto No. 5, widely known as The Turkish and following a fast-slow-fast structure. The evening culimates with Symphony No. 41, "Jupiter", his final symphony and also the longest that he composed. Never performed during his lifetime, it is now celebrated as one of his more powerful works.
British conductor Nicholas McGegan has performed with all of the major American orchestras, plus those in his native UK. Having made over 100 recordings, he has been nominated for a Grammy in 2011 for his Haydn album. He is also a recipient of the Handel Music Prize.
