Mamma Mia! At The Hollywood Bowl at Hollywood Bowl

Why see Mamma Mia! At The Hollywood Bowl?

Mamma Mia heads to the Bowl this summer!

Back for 2017, the Hollywood Bowl are once again staging their annual full-scale Broadway musical for a very limited run! This year's treat is the 2001 ABBA-inspired smash, Mamma Mia. With the Swedish icons' biggest hits Super Trouper', 'Lay All Your Love On Me', 'Dancing Queen', 'Waterloo', plus less well-known but equally touching songs such as 'Slipping Through My Fingers' and 'Our Last Summer', this full-sized musical is directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, and stars an (yet-to-be announced) all-star cast in the summer vacation show of a lifetime!

We head off to a sunlit island in the Mediterranean, where a sweet and emotional goodbye between mother and grown-up daughter is underway. Single mother Donna is stuggling to keep her hotel afloat, her soon-to-be-married daughter is yearning for adventure, and wants to know the identity of her father. After coming across a mysterious diary kept by her mother, she is shocked to discover that her father is one of three possible candidates! Promptly sending them invitations to the wedding, all three show up to walk her down the aisle, much to Donna's horror! Sparks fly, sand is kicked up in the peppiest musical of the new millennium!

Originally the work of British producer Judy Cramer and playwright Catherine Johnson, the pair were inspired to use the iconic band's hits in a theatrical show after meeting with founding members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. Premiering in London's West End in 1999, it spawned numerous international productions as well as inspiring the global smash hit movie starring Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried and notoriously, Pierce Brosnan.
