Man Of La Mancha at La Mirada Theatre

Why see Man Of La Mancha?

Returning to Los Angeles in 2017!

A celebrated Broadway hit and winner of five Tony Awards, Man of La Mancha returns to Los Angeles for the first time since 2014. Having left thousands breathless with a score including the touching ode to romance, "Dulcinea," the heroic "I, Don Quixote" and the immortal ballad "The Impossible Dream.", this phenomenal production fleshes out the other characters of this classic story who are larger than life, and well-loved by millions of people around the world.

An opera within a musical!

Inspired by one of the greatest novels of all time, Man of La Mancha channels the power of storytelling in a meta-musical format to recount the legend of would-be knight Don Quixote and his trusty sidekick Sancho as they embark on a journey full of laughter, love and unruly windmills.

Miguel de Cervantes and his faithful servant are thrown into jail by the brutal Inquisition for foreclosing on a monastery that failed to pay their taxes. Having managed to bring all their belongings with them into gaol, the other prisoners give them a deal - there will be a "trial" of sorts, and if they lose, they must hand over their worldly possessions. De Cervantes dons the costume of an elderly gentlemen, who then goes on to regale his unruly audience with The Legend of Don Quixote's exploits, as he embarks on a quest to lay siege on the windmills and to win the heart of his beautiful muse, Aldonza.

Absolutely fantastic

This is an amazing production - I was a little off-put at first as it was a somewhat nontraditional stage set up, but once it got started it was glorious. I laughed, I cried, the audience spontaneously gave a standing ovation - wonderful. Cast is top tier. ... Read more

Outstanding

This Man of la Mancha is fantastic. The actor who plays Don Quixote is superb. And so are the actors who play Sancho and Dulcinea/Aldonza. Sancho is so excellent as to almost steal the show. So is the astonishing Dulcinea/Aldonza. And the Padre and Barber were memorable as well, adding a lot of humor. A few of the scenes are very suggestive/violent, due to the choreography. Not knowing this beforehand, I took my kids (ages 8 and 10) to the show. They had read an abridged version of Don Quixote, and we had read the musical before seeing the show. My kids LOVED the show, especially Sancho and his voice, and now they keep singing songs and quoting lines from the show. My kids also asked questions about the rape scene. My suggestion would be a matinee for kids where the most suggestive choreography is toned down. My mother and husband also loved the show. We have all talked about it ever since. ... Read more

Superb!

Don't miss this production of Man of La Mancha. The cast is superb the performance is loaded with excellent voices, choreography, Orchestra and a compelling set versatile constantly keeping your eyes a fixed to their stage. All of the leads deliver a wonderful tempo of all the classic LA Mancha songs for me The Impossible Dream, I Like Him and Dulcinea most memorable. Wow it is nice to go to the theater and enjoy the venue, not be stressed by some quirky misinterpretation of a classic and watch a true professional cast put on a performance that even almost two weeks later I can't stop thinking about it. It was a superb time! ... Read more
