Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle) leads the cast of this exciting revival of Thornton Wilder's groundbreaking American classic from the Tony award-winning Deaf West Theatre. Using a number of dramatic concepts including a nameless narrator and the breaking of the fourth wall, Our Town delivers a profound exploration of life, love and death in a small New Hamshire town. Although set over a century ago, its tenet remains just as relevant to our lives today.
Central to Our Town are George and Emily, who we see grow up and get married, whilst hoping they've made the right desicion. Around them, the town of Grover's Corners continues as we revisit the citizens over three periods.
Known for their productions of Spring Awakening and Big River, Deaf West Theatre are a CA based company that aims to gain exposure and access to professional theatre for deaf audiences and actors. Each show is performed in ASL and spoken word.

The Kendall's
OUR TOWN, PASADENA PLAYHOUSE
The performance is nothing like what you would expect for such a traditional
and iconic play. That said, it is AMAZING. The deaf actors bring such a level of
heart and honesty and the direction was chilling and so nuanced that this
show deserves to run and tour for quite some time. The entire cast was so
present and can feel the audiences energy. Kudos to all as this looks like a
beast of a show to mount. Ms. Jane K brings star quality but felt uneasy in her
skin - seemingly on the outside looking in while the ensemble were brilliant, a
true tour de force. The direction was flawless as was the choice of set and

Our Town-the Universal Concept and Classic
Our Town can be challenging when it comes to having Deaf and hearing actors work
together in terms of trying to convey the story with a bilingual and Simultaneous
Communication approach. The Simcom is not a natural language but in theatre/art, you
can do anything to bend the rules and make it work. But the Bilingual Approach where
one is speaking English alone and the other is signing ASL alone is entertaining for both
