Ostensibly created as one of multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter Stephin Merritt's side projects for his laconic wit and verve, The Magnetic Fields have proven their strength from their 1991 debut '100,000 Fireflies' to vast '69 Love Songs'. Now, as Merritt enters his 50th year, they head out on a very special tour in support of his newest ambitious retrospective '50 Song Memoir', featuring one melodious number for each year of his illustrious half century.

Spanish popsters La Oreja de Van Gogh are headed back Stateside this year, celebrating a phenomenal 21 years in the music business. Seeing various changes of lineup, most notably the departure of lead singer Amaia Montero in 2007, their enduring appeal comes from their tried and tested formula of singing about love, friendship and relationships; something that has led them to sell over eight million copies of their albums worldwide. Their debut album, 1998's Dile al sol was certified platinum after selling a staggering 800,000 unites on its first release.

Eight-time Grammy winner and three time Oscar winner Burt Bacharach has written so many classic songs it's hard to keep track of them all. Collaborating with lyricist Hal David, Bacharach provided the likes of Dusty Springfield, Cilla Black, the Carpenters and Dionne Warwick with many of their biggest hits through the 60s and 70s, and his unique arrangements, heavily reliant on jazzy atmosphere and fuglehorns, became known as the 'Bacharach sound'.
