Los Angeles Philharmonic - Bartok Cycle with Dudamel and Yuja Wang at Walt Disney Concert Hall

Why see Los Angeles Philharmonic - Bartok Cycle with Dudamel and Yuja Wang?

Gustavo Dudamel conducts Yuja Wang when she returns to LA Phil

An exciting triple program conducted by LA Phil maestro Gustavo Dudamel welcomes prodigal pianist Yuja Wang to the stage! Her eye-catching outfits and glamorous stage persona as well as her virtuoso pianist skills have made her a true rising star in international classical music, hailing from Beijing and from a musical family to boot. At the tender age of 11, Wang was accepted to the Morningside Music Bridge International Music Festival in Calgary, making her the youngest ever student.

The program kicks off with Stravinsky's 1920 short but lively one-movement work for woodwinds and brass, Symphonies of Wind Instruments. Yuja Wang then enters the scene for Bartok's Second Piano Concerto, which he composed to be more friendly to audiences than his preceding piece. The performance ends with Janacek's Sinfonietta, created especially for the brass section and sandwiched between two striking fanfares.
