Why see Los Angeles Philharmonic - Bernstein's Mass with Dudamel?
Combining classical music and theatre for all walks of life
Leonard Bernstein is celebrated as one of the most forward-thinking Broadway composers of the 20th century, but he also turned his talents to more traditional works. His 1971 Mass came at a time of great turmoil in the world; global conflicts including Vietnam, India and Pakistan, riots at home and a devalued dollar all added to the sense of unease. This celebratory Mass, with text and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz was designed to bring together voices from different communities and to promote peace. This multi-disciplinary concert is led by leading conductor Gustavo Dudamel, with the Los Angeles Children's Chorus and Los Angeles Master Chorale providing the beautiful vocals.
In his eighth year as musical director, Dudamel's reputation continues to exceed expectations as he channels incredible talent and enthusiasm into world-famous classical pieces.
