An evening of Beethoven and Bernstein's most uplifting classical works
Spend an evening in the company of the LA Philharmonic, led by resident music director and conductor extraordinaire Gustavo Dudamel as they perform two glorious works by Beethoven and Bernstein. Accompanied by a full choir, the iconic pieces are a musical match made in heaven, mirroring each others life-affirming, uplifting joy in rising crescendos and optimistic, melodic passages.
Considered by critics to be one of the greatest works of the western classical cannon, Beethoven's 9th Symphony was the first composition to use voices in a symphony. It is perhaps best known for its triumphant final movement the Ode to Joy, a celebration of the spirit of man. Equally life-affirming is Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, a hopeful counterpart to the composer's famously anguished Kaddish.
