Why see Los Angeles Philharmonic: Falla & Flamenco with Dudamel?
Los Angeles Philharmonic music director and world-renowned conductor Gustav Dudamel turns his hand to this special look at Manuel De Falla's adventures in Flamenco. Falla, widely recognised as one of Spain's most important 20th Century composers, was drawn to flamenco because of what he perceived as rich history, with a patchwork of influences. The LA Phil will play from his El Amor Brujo, accompanied by dancers from the Siudy Garrido Ballet Flamenco.
El Amour Brujo, composed during the First World War whilst Falla was living in Madrid, tells the story of a young gypsy widow, haunted by the spectre of her late husband. Falla drew on the influence of his native Andalusia, and that of the North African, Gitano and Byzantine styles he identified in flamenco himself. A rare opportunity to see this inspiring work in concert.
