In 1995 Matthew Bourne and his New Adventures troupe took the Ballet world by storm when they debuted their male-dominated version of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. Swapping out the traditional all-female corps-de-ballet and replacing it with an all-male ensemble, Bourne transformed Swan Lake from an enchanting love story to a dark and menacing tale of obsession and betrayal.
