Why see The Great Leap?
A Play About the Struggles Players Face Both on and off of the Basketball Court
Award-winning playwright Lauren Yee and Tony Award winning director BD Wong present an intriguing new drama centered on basketball. Loosely inspired by Yee's father's brief stint as a basketball player, The Great Leap focuses on an international basketball game in Beijing during the 1980s post-Cultural Revolution that causes tensions between the countries.
San Francisco born Lauren Yee graduated in English and Theatre Arts in 2007 and has 11 plays under her belt. Upon its debut, The Great Leap received the 2017 Kesselring Prize and was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
