Kanye West - Nebuchadnezzar at Hollywood Bowl

Why see Kanye West - Nebuchadnezzar?

Yeezy Unveils His Debut Operatic Work Nebuchadnezzar

Following the growing popularity of his gospel-infused live Sunday Services, rap icon Kanye West is branching out into the art form of opera! On November 24th for one night only, his new piece Nebuchadnezzar will make history at LA's Hollywood Bowl, marking a new chapter in West's ever evolving career. Directed by Italian performance artist Vanessa Beecroft, the hotly anticipated production features the Sunday Service musicians, as well as singer Peter Colins and gospel group Infinity's Song.

Following on from the October 2019 release of West's acclaimed ninth studio album Jesus Is King, Nebuchadnezzar continues his non-secular exploration of the his Christian faith. One of the longest-reigning monarchs of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, the titular ruler features heavily in the Bible's Book of Daniel and is reported to be an ancient figure West relates to. Mirroring West's own religious journey, Nebuchadnezzar worshipped false idols until a series of trials and tribulations helped turn him into a true believer of the Israelites' one true God.

Why Opera?

The multi-platinum, multi-million dollar mogul is not an artist who is afraid to experiment. Consistently blurring genres and sounds, he's established himself as a pioneering trailblazer of modern R&B, pop and hip hop. Opera is a genre that many a modern artist would leave untouched, but West doesn't play it safe, so it seems to be the perfect stepping stone in his often outrageous journey towards living legend status. Little is known about his new opera's story or music, but it is sure to surprise, provoke and immortalise Yeezy's legacy even further.
