If it wasn't enough that Tony- and Emmy-winning vocal powerhouse and star of Wicked, Cynthia Erivo will play Jesus, it has now been announced rock icon and glam god Adam Lambert will play rock-opera's most tormented traitor Judas for three performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's classic rock opera, running August 13.
No stranger to the divine, Lambert arrives after his turn as the Emcee in Cabaret on Broadway.
About The Show
A bombastic rock opera based on the Gospels, Jesus Christ Superstar portrays the last week of Jesus' life, heavily focusing on his relationship with Judas Iscariot. Imbued with modern sensibilities and contemporary political and social themes, this show is about a very human Jesus Christ, one who must reckon with his impending death.
Aside from cleverly bringing the Passion into the 20th Century, Jesus Christ Superstar of course boasts one of Lloyd Webber's most exuberant and exciting scores, including the now classic numbers 'Superstar and 'I Don't Know How to Love Him'.
