What Did The Critics Think Of Skintight?

Abigail, October 18th, 2019

Starring Idina Menzel!

After an acclaimed off-Broadway run last year, Joshua Harmon's Skintight makes its LA debut this fall. Starring Tony winner Idina Menzel, what did the critics think of this Daniel Aukin helmed production?

Entertainment Weekly said that the production was "acerbic, neurotic, heart-achingly funny meditation on family, love, and beauty - and how we quantify, catalog and value each of those things."

The Los Angeles Times was also full of praise for Skintight, saying that it was "sharply directed" by Daniel Audkin and was a "comedy of acute chronological consciousness." They continue with praise for Menzel saying, "Idina Menzel, bringing all her Tony-winning radiance to the non-musical role".

StageSceneLA said that the production was "uproariously funny" and "unexpectedly touching". They concluded their review with "As laugh-and-star-power-packed a West Coast Premiere as any comedy lover could wish for".

What is Skintight about?

Shocked at the news that her ex-husband has married a much younger woman, Jodi Isaac seeks the support of her fashion designer father but instead finds him embroiled in his own trist with 20-year-old porn star Trey. Add Jodi's own 20-year-old son into the mix and you have an intriguing concoction of sexual attraction, superficiality and true love.

Skintight is now playing at the Geffen Playhouse through to October 12.
