A mildly entertaining mishmash of contrary comedic tones.
Like a great recipe, once this talented group molds and congeals to a singular tone or genre this could be a great and funny play...Now, each actor seems to be interpreting comedy and melodrama in his own way, leading to a confused and palatably unsatisfied audience. The actors did fine alone, but together it was like watching different plays in the same scene. I assume this was a comic take on Sherlock due to some slapstick and sound fx - hope I'm right! David did the best... He had presence and played a Columbo type of Sherlock. Watson played a very serious role, the wife an over the top melodrama, Moriarti a comic book villan, the police played slapstick, the #2 villan a dark humored batman type. Are you confused? So was the audience. In the end I feel the best genre for this material is a self aware over the top comedy with a little slapstick...kinda like Bean or a lighter Benny Hill. I feel this is where the actors wanted to go... But didn't let themselves go.
