As always, the set design at the Taper was top flight and earned the two stars. The play is nearly 80% narration, always a bad sign. The actors do not have time to build chemistry, and come off generally stiff and cartoonish. Even at an over long 21/2 hours, the play is barely able to get your feet immersed in the broad stream of history covered. The issue of immigration is important and topical. It deserves a better play.
