Why see Los Angeles Master Chorale - Handels Messiah?
60 Years Of The Master Chorale
Celebrating 60 years since their foundation, Los Angeles Master Chorale brings Mozart's reimagining of Handel's sensational oratorio to the Walt Disney Concert Hall! In what today one might call a cover version, Mozart's take on the rousing piece is not performed often but is worth witnessing, bringing his grand, signature flair to what is already one of the most iconic works of classical music, with its powerful hallelujah chorus.
Handel's Messiah was first performed in 1742 in Dublin and has since become a firm favorite among classical music lovers. The piece is an oratorio, which is a musical work similar to an opera but performed utilizing the vocals of both soloists as well as a choir, and often without the same narrative structure as an opera. Mozart's 1789 arrangement of the work has been credited as the force through which Handel's piece went on to become the wildly successful staple of classical music which we now know it to be.
