Why see Los Angeles Philharmonic - Ortiz and Piazzolla with Dudamel?
celebrating women activists
At the Walt Disney Concert Hall Gustavo Dudamel conducts a program put together with his frequent collaborator Gabriela Ortiz, paying tribute to some of the world's great women activists through music. Pan-American Music Initiative curator Ortiz presents her recent ballet score "Glitter Revolution", which takes its name from the 2019 movement in Mexico City, in which women rallied to address the prevalent issue of sexual violence.
Elsewhere on the program is Cuban American composer Tania Leon's Pulitzer Prize-winning Stride, dedicated to Susan B. Anthony, Deborah Borda and Jaap van Zweden, whilst Dudamel and the orchestra are joined by renowned violinist Leticia Moreno for a rousing performance of Astor Piazolla's magnificent Tango-infused Four Seasons of Buenos Aires.
