Indecent, written by Paula Vogel, is based on a play by Sholem Asch, in 1927. His play, God of Vengeance created a scandal when it was first produced. The current play skillfully incorporates key scenes from the original play as it toured around the country and even Europe, so we get the story of the play as well as the history of it with the current show. Six actors and four musicians do a wonderful job, the former switching into a variety of characters and the later switching instruments as needed. The direction is clever and moves the story forward at a fair pace. Somewhere in the middle the play and the staging sag, become repetitious and just when I began to wonder how is it going to end, it did with a clever fast paced finish. Recommend it? Only if you're interested in how a fanatic father destroys his family in the name of God.
