Great show especially coming out of the pandemic. Lots of energy, great vocals and remarkable dancing. Despite seeing the show with several understudies on, we were all impressed!

5.0 star rating Monica K from Schenectady, New York

I knew the story from the Netflix version, but let me say the stage version is so much better! My daughters ages 9 and 17 both absolutely loved the dancing and costumes! Such a bright uplifting show.

4.0 star rating Eleanor kehm from Cleveland, Ohio

Love it. The only that fell short was the scene on her bed with the guitar. Much to soft and hard to understand. Singing and dancing was first classi.

4.0 star rating Emh from Buffalo, New York

We all thouhght is was really funny and enjoyed the show. I agree that the guitar scene on the bed was difficult to hear, the Christian scene was a little odd and yes, it was predictable. However, there were some really funny parts and we agreed that, overall, it was a very enjoyable show.

2.0 star rating Susan Wynn from Los Angeles, California

I felt the show had a lot going on, kept me paying attention, some of the songs were very good. Otherwise, it was disappointing. Felt amateurish. Lots of squeaky voices, not great dancing, lacked depth, and presentation of homophobic attitudes were very stereotypical. Christianity in the show would have been better represented as Fascist Christianity. That would have been culturally correct. Still, the audience really seemed to enjoy it as did the cast. That high energy felt good.

1.0 star rating Jimi from St. Louis, Missouri

The voices were weak and uninspiring. The dancing was no better. The staging was amateurish. The people in our group were all disappointed. Additionally, presents a very inaccurate representation of Christian doctrine. I believe it is the worst show I’ve seen in the last 30 years at the Fox or the Muni

1.0 star rating Mike Defibaugh from Los Angeles, California

I have never walked out at intermission of any play I've ever seen but I was sorely tempted to with this show. I did stay to the very end and unfortunately didn't get any better. I thought it was tired and obvious and offered no subtlety at all. I totally embrace the message of the show but I just thought it was so poorly done that I felt I wasted my evening. Earlier this season I saw Everyone's Talking About Jamie, and loved it. The Prom tried and failed, where Jamie succeeded for me. There were some really great performers that I would like to see do other things. I have seen some really great plays at the Ahmanson and been entertained by many others but this is the second worst show I have attended there. (Grey Gardens was the worst.)

What we thought

HILARIOUS Powerful fabulous

Given the diversity of this score and the pure comedic joy this show is a big crowd pleaser for the young and old. You don't want to miss this one!

Chad Beguelin and Bob Martin's Book is hysterical and superb with a brilliant score by Beguelin and Mathew Skylar. The Prom captures the ludicrous mindset of our time with wickedly sharp wit.
