LA Opera: Tosca at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion

Why see LA Opera: Tosca?

Sondra Radvanovsky returns in her epic role!

Part of LA Opera's 30th anniversary season in 2017, Tosca makes a welcome return to the repertory, having last been performed in 2013. Returning to sing the role of the tragic ingenue is the critically acclaimed Sondra Radvanovsky, who led John Caird's thrilling production. John Conlon will conduct proceedings for this colorful revival. Puccini's intense opera in three acts is set in the boiling turmoil of Napoleonic Rome in 1800 just before the battle of Marengo, elevating everything from drama, battle and romance through the eyes of a desperate prima donna as she tries to save her lover.

Caught in a love triangle of epic proportions, Floria Tosca is pursued by a lascivious chief of police who covets her more than anything, and will go to dangerous lengths to have her. However, she only has eyes for her rebel lover, who is trying to stave off the invading forces of Napoleon's army. However, in order to save his life she must involve herself in the treacherous world of politics - leading to disaster for all three.

Sondra is best Tosca Ever!

I ended my L. A. Opera subscription with Sondra's Tosca several years ago. Having seen her many times in other operas, I was sure she would be fantastic and she was! Best voice and acting for this opera that I've ever seen and I've seen a few. Don't miss this Tosca!! Don't miss Sondra!!! I had a center orchestra seat which was perfect, of course! Advice - get into the parking lot early as other venues may fill it up. ... Read more
