Grand Hotel - The Musical at Freud Playhouse

Why see Grand Hotel - The Musical?

Enter The Old World Luxury Of The Opulent Grand Hotel

Dedicated to shining a light on Broadway's forgotten gems, Los Angeles theatre company Reprise 2.0 is bringing back five-time Tony Award-winning 1989 musical spectacular Grand Hotel for a strictly limited two week run this winter! Based on the 1929 novella by Austrian authoress Vicki Baum and the following 1939 star-studded, John Barrymore-led film, the production shone thanks to its classic score and direction/choreography by musical theatre icon Tommy Tune.

Set in Berlin at the height of the roaring 20s, Grand Hotel chronicles the a colorful cabal of guests at the opulent titular establishment. There's Erik, the concierge who's waiting on the news of his wife's difficult labor, the cynical Dr. Otternschlag, who self prescribes and injects morphine to alleviate an old war wound, the Baron Felix Von Gaigern, who's young, handsome and on the run, ageing ballerina Elizaveta and Jewish bookkeeper Otto Kringelein who's spent the last of his savings on a bucket-list stay, amongst others. Over the course of a weekend, the lives of these strangers intertwine and change course in a whirlwind of song and dance.
