My Morning Jacket and Fleet Foxes at Hollywood Bowl

Why see My Morning Jacket and Fleet Foxes?

giants of indie rock

Two of the biggest names in indie rock, My Morning Jacket and Fleet Foxes, have announced a huge co-headline show at the Hollywood Bowl this August! The pair are among the most influential indie acts of their generation and their double billing is what dreams are made of for fans of alternative music.

My Morning Jacket

Established as one of the great modern alt-rock bands, My Morning Jacket have built up their fanbase steadily over the years. Founded in 1998 by Jim James following the breakup of his band Winter Death Club, My Morning Jacket has built a solid reputation through their now nine-album back catalog, with critics praising their wide palette of rock styles from classic rock, country, soul and psychedelia. The name of the collective has its own interesting roots too. It was named after a discarded and battered coat that James spotted the morning after his favorite bar had burned down; the jacket in question that he found whilst surveying the damage had the initials MMJ embroidered on it.

Bursting on to the world stage with their 2008 eponymous debut album, Fleet Foxes changed the face of that era's folk-rock landscape through their evocative, otherwordly sound on their first two records, making use of four-part harmony drenched in reverb, soaring melodies and even old folk traditions such as singing-in-the-round. After a hiatus, they returned in 2017 with their third album Crack Up, whilst 2020 saw the surprise release of Shore, revamping their sound into joyful, uptempo indie-rock bops and a live show featuring guest performers for the first time, including Uwade and Tim Bernardes.
