Why see New Order and Pet Shop Boys?

TWO LEGENDARY NEW WAVE BANDS ANNOUNCE JOINT TOUR

Legendary British new-wave/synth-pop bands Pet Shop Boys and New Order have announced their first ever joint tour, embarking on a US and Canada co-headline run in September-October 2021. Opening in Toronto on September 5th, the trek includes stops at New York's Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl and Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia MD.

Pet Shop Boys and New Order are two giants of 80s-90s pop music, leading the UK post-punk and new-wave scene and leaving a lasting influence on the sound of British contemporary music. New Order were formed out of the ashes of Joy Division following the tragic suicide of singer Ian Curtis in 1980, but went on to assert themselves as a true musical and cultural force independent of their previous incarnation. Pet Shop Boys' emergence from 1980s London meanwhile saw a meteoric rise, winning a BRIT Award and Ivor Novello Award for their smash-hit 'West End Girls' just a few years after their first ever jams in Tennant's West London bedroom. Their latest album Hotspot was released in January 2020. Both bands have enjoyed worldwide success, with multiple gold and platinum selling albums between them.

Loved every second

Oh I disagree. The Vancouver show was top-notch! I felt honored to be in the audience. New Order blew my ears and eyes away. I haven't danced like that in years. Our Vancouver show closed with some Joy Division tunes and Ian Curtis tribute. Then, what was left of my clothing, was blown entirely off my body by the Pet Shop Boys. I've never had such fun in my life. Hit after hit after hit! Amazing show! Great crowd too! ... Read more

New Order were Fantastic. Period.

I agree with you Michael B. Both bands and Paul Oakenfold were great. I’ve seen all three acts a few times over the years. I did not think a DJ could get an older crowd up and dancing. Nope! Wrong! Song selection connected big time. They were singing, dancing, fist pumping. I loved New Order’s performance. I dunno I quests I connect with music that has mistakes and isn’t flawless . New Order has heart and soul. Berny sings like that on purpose. I’ve seen him do that Every show I’ve attended. Not sure why, it’s punk rock I guess. Pet Ship boys sounded great. And Loud! The crowd was super into it. Every single person in that building had a fantastic evening. That I am sure of. Hope we all get to do it again some day. 🙂👍 My only gripe is that the sound quality and levels seemed lower for New Order. Shame. They are the most important band(s) of the last 50 years. No New Order no EDM. Not to mention pioneering playing rock instruments over drum machine loops…….. Which every single pop act now replicates ... Read more

Old guy rocked it

Maybe the previous person should have done some research.. pet shop boys and NO alternate openings every other show…stop whining and read. The show would have been 5 stars if the vocals had not “aged” to the point of being a bit disappointing. And/or the band had been a bit more engaged with an audience that started out really ready to rock. Pet shop boys were more structured and obviously less musical but their willingness to interact and have a bit of fun should have been more of an inspiration. That said, NO flat rocked when they leaned in on the guitars and off the vocals. All in all this was a an awesome rock show. ... Read more
