Why see Head of Passes?
A Storm is Coming
The Center Theater Group present Tarell Alvin McCraney's Head of Passes, with Tony winner Phylicia Rashad (A Raisin in the Sun, Creed) reprising her Off-Broadway performance in the lead role of Shelah. An enthralling mix of religious allegory, poetry and family drama, this play is a deeply lyrical examination of religious faith and the bonds of domesticity.
Set in Louisianna in the not too distant future, the story centers on a birthday celebration that is overshadowed by Shelah's predictions of an impending biblical disaster. Following its development at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Head of Passes premiered Off-Broadway in 2016, and was met with a shower of plaudits from the critics, including The New York Times' Ben Brantley, who described Rashad as "remarkable." This Los Angeles production is directed by Tina Landau.
