Emmylou Harris still has the magic

I've been a fan of Emmylou Harris for decades. Walking into the beautifully redecorated Ruth Eckerd Hall, the audience mingling were mostly aging boomers, although a few zoomers and gen x intermingled. We were in Row R in the middle, and I found the concert both moving and beautiful. Emmylou's voice was strong and resonant with feeling, and she rocked her 76 year old self for almost two hours. Her band was amazing - the mandolin player blew me away, and the other musicians played together with great connection and harmony. I thought her choice of songs was appropriate for the time. She has such a vast repertoire I'm sure it was hard to choose. She ended with one of my favorites - "I don't want to hear another love song." She was gracious, energetic, communicative and the audience loved her and her band. I too am a 76 year old woman, and her energy and voice blew me away. I just wish audience members would be more polite - and not talk during the performance or shoot flash pictures.

Great but could have been better

Great venue. Great seats the first verse she sang made my hair stand on end. But...the lack of playing the rockin oldies was a miss for me. She even made comments to singing depressing songs. I don't get it. The vocal sound quality was garbled from where I was sitting in loge left. The band was great.

Melancholia

10-4 We saw her in Cedar Falls Iowa at the Gallagher Bluedorn, which has good acoustics and sight lines (not a bad seat in the house). It’s maybe our fourth Emmylou concert, starting in late 70s. Love her to death, but the song selection seemed to favor her later recordings and were a bit of a downer. I think it contributed to a low energy dynamic between the audience and musicians. On balance, I thought the audience was stingy with applause at the start, but the song choices did little to lighten mood or inspire enthusiastic toe tapping. Emmy and her band are accomplished and compelling- I think we all teared up several times- Just were hoping for a little heavier sprinkling of fun, familiar tunes.

Disappointed in the sound quality

It was fun to be there, but the songs sounded garbled—hard to understand. Definitely diminished the experience. We were in row J.

Disappointed

Attended An Evening with Emmylou Harris on March 3, 2023 at The Atlanta Symphony Hall. I was never a big fan not because I didn't like her. I just didn't really know her music. I went because a friend invited me. The concert lasted about 90 minutes. Looked like a full house. Their sound system either wasn't very good or she wasn't using the mic properly. Maybe it was some other problem, but I could not understand any of the lyrics. What good is a country song or ballad if you can't make out the words? Just an occasional word or few words together were decipherable. They're was one Acapella song and THAT was clear and very enjoyable. It must have been me, but I felt almost as if all the other songs sounded alike. Emmylou can still sing great but not being able to hear the lyrics was a major disappointment. It turned out to be a waste of a lot of money. We had dinner at LaGrotta, an Italian restaurant just north of the Arts Center. Our second time there. It's absolutely wonderful. Extremely expensive but worth every penny.

Depressing

Mostly sad ballads. No upbeat bluegrass . Never heard most songs. Yardley Hall is a beautiful venue though! Would go back for another concert!
