Why see Los Angeles Ballet - Sleeping Beauty?
Spend An Enchanting Evening At The Ballet
The first collaboration between balletmaster Marius Petipa and the great Russian composer Tchaikovsky, The Sleeping Beauty ballet is renowned for its exquisite beauty, both musical and kinetic. A perfect night out at the ballet, the classical masterwork enjoys a new adaptation from the Los Angeles Ballet in the summer of 2020.
Modelled after the original Petipa choreography by husband and wife duo Thordal Christensen & Colleen Neary, the ballet is modelled on the Charles Perrault fairy tale. At the center of the story lies the beauteous Princess Aurora, the pride of the Kingdom upon her birth. A jealous fairy called Carabosse curses her at her first birthday celebrations, prophesying that she will prick her finger on a spindle at age sixteen and die. Another fairy steps in and softens the blow, so that when the princess pricks her finger, she falls asleep for a hundred years, only to awaken for true love's kiss.
