What A Show!

In attending the show, I was uncertain what to expect. I looked for videos online and saw bits of it and wondered how is Bill Murray and, these classical artists going to pull this one off? I was left stunned and in awe of the performance by both Bill and his friends. It was at times intense and fun mixed with some sweetness all in one. At times Bills raw humor showed its face but all in all he was very focused and in tune with the group. I must take my hat off to the man who stood on the stage before me as he belted out some favorite tunes and then in a Nano second, channeling himself into the character of Jimmy Durante! BRAVO Mr. Murray! In getting to his vocal performances, Mr. Murray was on key and I found myself swaying to the music and enjoying the sound of his voice. It was soothing and entertaining and delightful. At times engaging with the audience in song only heightened my respect and adoration for the man who’s films I have seen countless times. I came to realize that this man on the theater stage, was in fact the true Bill Murray. A man with undeniable talent, with the obvious appreciation for classical music able to narrate with superior class sounding as if he himself were a poet, a man on a mission. “Yes” Bill you pulled it off. And let me not forget to mention his friends by name…. Jan Vogler the cellist who brings to life the giant and powerful cello. At times it was difficult to see if Jan was playing the cello or, was the cello playing Jan? His passion evident in his performance a master and artist of an instrument that demands respect. What a remarkable duo Mr. Vogler and his cello!! Mira Wang a delightful and brilliant violinist who reminded me, how much I love listening to the violin. She mastered that instrument as if it were her last performance. Gently she played and you could almost hear the violin weep at her hands…. then as fierce as an evening storm Ms. Wang would play and tug and pick at her violin as is she wanted to destroy the tiny instrument, only to end it with soft, light strokes as if placing a child to sleep. A brilliant performance Ms. Wang!! Vanessa Perez was as entertaining as the ones before her! Her passion displayed by the jerks of her head as she played that piano with her body swaying to the sounds that escaped from her fingertips. I found myself mesmerized by her movements and her obvious love for the music she shared. She commanded the attention not from the audience, but from the instrument in front of her. For the piano there was no escaping her as she played, at times banged on its keys commanding the sounds to reach out and be heard and then softly patting the ivory keys as she drove it home down to a whisper. A magnificent performance Ms. Perez. The bottom line is, I would recommend this show for all to see. No matter what age group you are, young or old this show has a way of playing your heart. Hats off to the Riverside Theater and Milwaukee for bringing such a class act to the stage! Respectfully, Anne Kevitt

I would not recommend this show for a fun night in Chicago. Make sure you know exactly what this show is before attending. This is not the Bill Murray who I grew up watching. He has abandoned the things that made him a legend. Too bad he doesn't stick with comedy. The venue and seats are fantastic. I would not bring children to see this unless as a form of punishmentt.
