Why See Andrew Bird?
Chicagoan singer and violinist Bird embarks on a solo tour throughout the States. Taking influence from Scottish folk music bluegrass and classical music, his sound samples a myriad of different genres including steel band, jazz, swing and rock, which has featured on other artists' EPs, and soundtracks to television shows and films including Orange Is The New Black, and Norman. Bird is famed for updating his tunes mid-performance which guarantees that each gig will be different from the previous.
Previously admitting his distaste for indie and rock music during his early twenties, Bird has since incorporated elements into his newer work. In 2011 Bird and his band was the feature of a film-length documentary called "Andrew Bird: Fever Year", which followed them on his year-long tour. Premiering at Lincoln Center with the New York Film Festival, the award-winning movie's festival-only run closed in 2013 after showing in over 90 international festivals.
Performance date: 11 October 2018
