Why see Ironbound?
The Acclaimed off-Broadway Hit
Award-winning playwright Martyna Majok brings her darkly funny play to Los Angeles, following its recent successful run Off-Broadway, which starred Gina Gershon in the lead role. Ironbound tracks the life of Polish immigrant Darja over the course of two decades, and the men who both aid and hinder her struggle to survive. The play was first produced in Washington D.C as part of the Women's Voices Theater Festival, and was praised as both a vital and damning portrait of the American dream.
A feminist triumph for female playwrights
An acclaimed work that highlights the plight of women struggling in a foreign country to survive, Majok's work won the 2016 Helen Hayes Awards' Charles MacArthur Award, for Outstanding Original New Play or Musical. First premiering in 2015 at D.C's Roundhouse Theatre, this celebration of one woman's steely determination to survive whatever life throws at her made Majok a formidable voice in feminist playwriting.
