Why see Los Angeles Philharmonic - Tchaikovsky and Liszt?
Featuring pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet
An enchanting double program conducted by visiting Venezuelan conductor Rafael Payare welcomes prodigal pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet to the Bowl! With stage-commanding flair and virtuosic technique, he is an expert in Liszt, and he will be performing the Piano Concerto No. 2, a 20-minute symphonic poem that was first performed by the LA Phil in 1921. The second part of the evening will feature Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 an ode to Czarist Russia featuring piano and almost the entire woodwind section, first performed in 1920.
French-born Jean-Yves Thibaudet was a child prodigy at the Lyon Conservatory, entering the institution at the tender age of five. Now a worldwide classical superstar, he has performed with the world's leading orchestras, especially in Australia. He has frequently collaborated with Joshua Bell, violist Yuri Bashmet and soprano Renee Fleming.
