Why see Los Angeles Philharmonic: Tour de Force: Dudamel & Mahler 6?
Orchestral Music at its most gripping and dramatic
Arguably Mahler's darkest work, The Symphony No. 6 will be brought to life at Walt Disney Concert Hall by the LA Philharmonic Orchestra, under the skilled direction of famed Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel for four nights only! This powerful and monumental symphony, often referred to as the Tragische or Tragic, is somewhat mythical in the world of classical music; at the time of writing, the piece foreshadowed calamitous tragedy in Mahler's personal life.
Conductor Dudamel is the director of the LA Philharmonic and is said to have a special affinity for Mahler's work. The show realizes Mahler's famous "hammer blows" with an enormous wooden box and an equally enormous sledgehammer so prepare to be shaken to your core!
