The Tony Award-nominated musical lands on the streaming service on December 11

The brand new movie adaptation of the seven-time Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical The Prom arrives on the streaming service Netflix on December 11!

The Netflix movie is directed by Ryan Murphy (Glee, Pose, American Horror Story) and stars Hollywood legends Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Andrew Rannells and Keegan-Michael Key.

The Prom Stage Musical

Following the same plot as the original Broadway musical (which was directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw), The Prom follows the story of Emma, a young lesbian from a small town in Indiana who causes a stir when she decides to bring her girlfriend to her highschool's prom. When a troupe of Broadway stars hear the news, they are determined to bring about social justice and head to Emma's rescue.

Running on Broadway for almost a year, The Prom (which features a book by Chad Beguelin and Bob Martin) garnered seven Tony award nominations, including the nomination for Best Musical and Best Original Score.

The movie adaptation stars Meryl Streep as Dee Dee Allen, James Corden as Barry Glickman, Nicole Kidman as Angie Dickinson, Kerry Washington as Mrs Greene, Keegan-Michael Key as Principal Tom Hawkins, Andrew Rannells as Trent Oliver, and with Ariana DeBose as Alyssa Greene and Jo Ellen Pellman as Emma.

With a score and lyrics by Matthew Skylar and Chad Beguelin The Prom features musical hits like "Dance With You", "Tonight Belongs To You" and "It's Time To Dance".
