What is the story?

This chapter centers on Maria Porkalob, Jr., a young Filipina American woman reaching for a life larger than the one she's been handed. When she's offered a rare chance to leave her Washington hometown behind and forge a new path in Alaska, Maria has to make a weighty decision; does she leave her family forever, or is there too much to lose?
