Sara Porkalob's Dragon Cycle Part II
Dragon Mama is the return of award-winning creator-performer Sara Porkalob to the Geffen Playhouse for the second chapter of her multigenerational storytelling project, The Dragon Cycle! Drawing from her own family's extraordinary past to create highly personal, epic theatre, Broadway performer Porkalob plays characters from across her family's generations, to bring the story of Filipino-American descendants of gangsters to the stage.
This chapter centers on Maria Porkalob, Jr., a young Filipina American woman reaching for a life larger than the one she's been handed. When she's offered a rare chance to leave her Washington hometown behind and forge a new path in Alaska, Maria has to make a weighty decision; does she leave her family forever, or is there too much to lose? Soundtracked by 90s R&B, Dragon Mama is both moving and side-splittingly funny, worth every bit of the awards its received.
