Los Angeles Opera - Carmen

Why see Los Angeles Opera - Carmen?

Look Who's Back

Beginning his inaugural season as Music Director with a bang, Domingo Hindoyan leads the company in one of opera's most cherished scores for this exciting new staging of Carmen. Starring Rihab Chaieb as the titular anti-heroine, this production from Thaddeus Strassberger is dripping in Spanish Gothic splendor, all the better to take you into the sizzling world of opera's great femme fatale!

What Is The Story of Carmen?

Premiering in 1875, Carmen has carved a niche in our consciousness as one of opera's most dangerous women. Stunningly beautiful and wholly aware, her habit of taking and breaking hearts can only lead to trouble for her and her bedazzled targets. One of the most explosively entertaining works in the repertoire, Georges Bizet's Carmen couples an enticing storyline with a heart-stopping score that'll have you on the very edge of your seat.

Carmen is a provocative Gyspy woman, whose short temper brings her to the attention of the kind and charismatic Don Jose, who falls head over heels in love with her. An intense tale of love found and ruthlessly taken, Carmen is an intense and passionate piece, as lust and revenge go hand in hand, making for a fiery finale.
