Why see Los Angeles Opera - El Ultimo Sueno De Frida Y Diego?
a magical realist fantasy
The famously tempestuous relationship of legendary artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera forms the basis of this brand-new opera from Grammy Award-winning composer Gabriela Lena Frank and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz. Blending a folklore-inspired score with visuals based on the duo's iconic works, this fantastical tale is set to be a highlight of the season as it takes to the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion stage this November.
What is the story?
Seeking forgiveness from his famous wife, Diego Rivera makes a wish on the Day of The Dead, summoning a less-than-impressed Frida. Unwilling to return to the living world, it takes a friend to show her the wonder and legacy of her art - and to help examine the true impact of her marriage.
