Sometimes love is all it takes to crush your wings...the Los Angeles Opera returns in 2024 with one of the most widely recognised operas in the world, one that has spawned many adaptations in the 110 years since its premiere at La Scala. Los Angeles Opera presents this version of Santa Fe's production, only this time it's more cinematic than ever!
What is the story?
Madame Butterfly is the sad tale of Cio Cio or 'Butterfly', a young Japanese girl who believes that with her marriage to US Naval officer Pinkerton, she has found lasting happiness. But her devotion is misguided, and Pinkerton only sees her and their marriage as a stepping stone for his return to America to find his 'true bride'.
Unaware of this fact, the besotted Butterfly waits for her husband to come back to Japan, only to discover that she has been found wanting...
