Los Angeles Opera - Nabucco at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion

Why see Los Angeles Opera - Nabucco?

revenge and redemption

Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar makes his Los Angeles Opera debut as the titular King of Babylon, driven mad by his lust for power, in this career-making Grand opera from the pen of Verdi. First seen in 2017, Thaddeus Strassberger's production moves the action from the Hanging Gardens of Babylon to the gilded theatres of Milan.

A Power Play, The Story of Nabucco

Follow the titular King of Babylon, driven mad by his lust for power, in this career-making Grand opera from the pen of Verdi. Matched in its lofty subject matter, taken from the biblical books of Jeremiah and Daniel, by an exceptional score, this bloodthirsty and passion-filled story of the oppression of the Israelites and their fight for freedom is truly a transcendental experience rarely matched in the genre.

Nabucco takes you far back in time to Babylon, where tensions are rising between the Hebrews and the Babylonians. Nabucco is King, but his days are numbered, at least according to his treacherous daughter Abigaille, who plans to overthrow her father and expel the Israelites. But first she must dispose of her kidnapped sister, whose time in captivity has found her sympathetic and dedicated to restoring peace...
