The legendary tenor marks an important milestone
One third of the legendary Three Tenors, the iconic singer and incumbent artistic director of the LA Opera is about to mark his biggest milestone yet; celebrating 50 years since when he first performed on tour as a young singer, with New York City Opera. Now exactly five decades on, he heads back to the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion to where his love affair with the city of Los Angeles started. Not only has he sung, he has also conducted operas and has tirelessly championed the arts in the vast and sprawling city. James Conlon will conduct the LA Opera Orchestra, amidst a galaxy of star guests in this very special evening.
Domingo's vocal repertoire encompasses 140 stage roles - a number unmatched by any other celebrated tenor in history. His most famous collaboration was with Jose Carreras and the late Luciano Pavarotti; together they formed the immortally popular Three Tenors, who first came to worldwide prominence for their stirring rendition of Nessun Dorma at the 1990 World Cup final; the subsequent album The Three Tenors In Concert remains to this day, the highest-selling classical album ever recorded!
