A. K. Payne's Furlough's Paradise at the Geffen
With humor and tenderness in equal measure, in Furlough's Paradise playwright A.K. Payne explores the hope and memories that family affords, through the reunion of cousins Sade and Mina. Brought together by the funeral of their mother and aunt, Sade is on a three-day temporary release from prison, while Mina returns from the West Coast.
As they navigate their grief and differing memories, the cousins grapple with what it means to heal and find belonging in a fractured world. Directed by Tinashe Kajese-Bolden, Furlough's Paradise is a moving meditation on whether a family's shared dreams can overcome the divides between them.
