As if mocking his disability, Tsujii plays with an extraordinarily precise touch and sonic definition.

A starlit all-Beethoven program at Hollywood Bowl
Los Angeles Philharmonic has a treat in store under the starry skies above the Hollywood Bowl! Giedre Slekyte conducts a magnificent all-Beethoven program featuring the composer's overture to Op. 84 Egmont, his Piano Concerto No. 4 - featuring the talents of the blind Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii - and, for the grand finale, his Eroica Symphony!
Blind from birth, Tsujii - or 'Nobu' - is a true phenom, having performed with many of the world's top orchestras and earning great critical acclaim in the process for his dramatic playing. His incredible ability to feel the music can be truly appreciated when considering that, when once asked how he performs to a conductor he cannot see, his response was that he simply listens for the conductor's breath. And yet, astonishingly, when interviewed after a performance at the BBC Proms, conductor Domingo Hindoyan revealed that he doesn't have to change a single aspect of his own performance when working with Nobu.
