Tony-Nominated Story of Imelda Marcos - Disco Style.
Disco-dancing around the theatre scene for the best part of a decade, this David Byrne and Fatboy Slim-scored musical comes to Los Angeles to transform the Mark Taper Forum into a dance club - directed by Snehal Desai, Artistic Director of Center Theatre Group! A fully immersive show, Here Lies Love is a vibrant look at the life of former First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos. With direction from Alex Timbers, sets from Hamilton's David Korins, and choreography from Annie B Parson, this Broadway hit has been nominated for four Tony awards!
What Is The Story?
Originally created as a concept album in collaboration between David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, it was developed shortly afterward into a disco-themed rock musical. Loosely following the narrative structure of Evita, Here Lies Loves shows us the rapid rise to fame of Imelda Marcos through her marriage to the despot Ferdinand Marcos from young dreamer to stateswoman. But power and pride come before a fall as she discovers, when she descends into infamy through her outrageous spending sprees (more than 2,700 pairs of shoes) and opulent lifestyle, while her husband tortured thousands through his 20-year dictatorship.
