Anna Deavere Smith's anatomy of the 1992 LA Uprising returns for its 30th Anniversary
Chronicling the events of the 1992 Los Angeles Uprising that followed the acquittal of the police officers in the Rodney King trial through the accounts of the people who were involved - from law enforcement to civilians, aggressors, and victims - this phenomenal 1994 Tony-nominated one-woman play by Anna Deavere Smith examines the various touch papers that set the city ablaze, becoming a stark reckoning of the tumultuous events of April 1992.
Originally commissioned by the Mark Taper Forum, the play returns this spring for a 30th-anniversary production, adapted for an ensemble cast.
