Act II of the second part of Wagner's Ring Cycle
Act II of the second part of Wagner's Ring Cycle
Wagner's epic Ring Cycle's second instalment, Die Walkure ("The Valkyrie") plays out in three thrilling Acts performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra! Following on from the orchestra's Das Rheingold production, director Alberto Arvelo, conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the LA Phil and a cast of breathtaking singers present the first part of the epic, playing out on a set designed by the late Frank Gehry. Loosely based on Norse mythology with a healthy dose of European folklore, discover a world of Gods, men, and monsters, romance, revenge, adventure, and more. Act I will be performed on May 19 and 22, Act II on May 20 and 23, and Act II on May 21 and 24.
In the second act of this saga based on the ancient Volsunga Saga and Poetic Edda from Norse Mythology, Brunnhilde, the Valkyrie warrior from which the opera gets its name, is instructed by the god Wotan to protect Siegmund in his battle with Hunding. Featuring the build up to come in Act III including Wagner's famous "Ride of the Valkyries", this act continues the work that has left us with some of opera's most enduring music.
